If You Think The “Unexpected” Could Never Happen to Your Family, consider this True Story:
Melanie and Casey Barber were the All-American parents of three little boys. On July 31, 2006, the Barber family was in a tragic car accident. The boys survived, their parents didn’t. But that was just the beginning of the nightmare.
From the thousands of pages of court records filed in the guardianship case of the Barber boys, it appears that Mel and Casey had talked about naming guardians to provide for the care of their sons, they just never got around to documenting what they wanted. They probably thought their family would be able to easily work out who would take care of the boys, if anything happened.
That’s not what happened. After the accident, the boys were in the foster care system for a short time while the police located family members. They then went to live with one of their aunts (who allegedly kept them from seeing the rest of the family) while the family went to Court to fight over who would raise the boys. Since then, over 1,000 pages of court documents have been filed, 9 lawyers have been involved, and tens (or even hundreds) of thousands of dollars have been spent.
When all is said and done, a Court will appoint their legal guardian who may or may not have been who Mel and Casey would have chosen. We’ll never know if the Judge made the right choice because Mel and Casey’s wishes will never be known.
If they had known what would happen, Mel and Casey would have taken the simple steps necessary to ensure their boys were raised the way they want by the people they want. Now you can learn from their experience and not leave the well-being of your children to chance for another day.
What other parents are saying . . .
We learned the importance of expecting the “unexpected”
“I dragged my reluctant husband to the office last summer. I was eager to get our living trust set up, and especially to set up guardians for our small children in the event something happened to us. “In the event something happened to us” always seemed like it would be a long way of in the future, and my husband will willingly tell you he is not much for the long term plans. It struck us when we were asked, in a caring way, what would happen to our kids if we did not make it home from that meeting.
The irony is, that less than two months after we signed our trust documents, I found a mysterious lump in my neck, and I was soon diagnosed with cancer. I always worried something would happen to my husband or my little kids, but I never really thought about what would happen if mommy got sick or mommy died. My cancer is gone now, but through the ordeal of the six months of chemotherapy, I felt so relieved to know that Matthew and his staff were still working get all my plans in order…”

Nothing Scarier ….what would happen to your children if you were gone
“My wife and I were ‘first timers’ and had a lot of estate planning questions, especially relating to protecting our two young boys. There is nothing scarier than the thought of what would happen to your children if you were gone. Matthew truly cares, and it comes through. I am happy to recommend Crider Law whenever I talk with someone who needs these services.”

With Two Small Children We Knew We Had to Get Things In Order
“We recently had two children and knew we had to get our custody and financial distribution in order… Matthew was so generous with his wisdom, time, and personal experiences. He gave honest opinions only when asked with no judgments given. The paperwork was all very professional, timely, and easy to follow. Everything was great. Thank you!”

The Kid Protection Tips guide is my gift to you… no strings attached.
Why Am I Doing This?

Because I’ve been there. As a father, I know first-hand the concerns you have as a parent. I remember the first time my wife and I left our daughter with a baby sitter: the “instruction sheet” seemed to get longer and longer. Of course, it only addressed what the sitter was to do in the case of an emergency involving our daughter. It didn’t address what was to happen if something happened to me and my wife. When we realized there was this huge gap in our planning, we acted immediately, educated ourselves, and put the plan in place quickly. We relied on someone I knew and trusted to help us. This FREE guide, “The Kid Protection Plan” is just a small pay-back so that other parents can get the protection they and their families need, so they can live the life they deserve.
