Roseville Divorce Attorney Discusses How Economy Affects Marriage and Divorce

The economy is affecting more than just your job.  It's affecting your marriage, and perhaps your divorce.   The Sacramento Bee reported today that more couples in Sacramento county, Placer county and the surrounding counties are sticking out their marriage to avoid the high cost often associated with divorce.  These costs are not just the cost of hiring a lawyer to help you with your divorce.  The costs include the reduced value of the marital assets or community assets, such as the family home, or the retirement account.  Many couples are waiting for the market to rebound before getting divorced or at least before selling the family residence.  Financial and divorce counselors are discussing more options with potential divorcing couples, and one of those options includes staying together, at least until the economy rebounds.  

On the other side of the globe, however, the BBC reported today that, for some, business is booming during the economic downturn.  Economic crises often increase stress on personal finances, and on marriages, and in some instances those stresses lead to divorce.  For example, it is common and not unheard of for a married couple to go through bankruptcy, and then seek a divorce later.
